What is Insomnia?

Insomnia is having problem getting to sleep at night. It can also be waking up in the middle of the night and stay awake for hours being unable to continue sleeping. Having 8 hours of sleep but still feeling restless and tired is also part of insomnia. Insufficient sleep or poor quality sleep can cause fatigue and lack of focus during the day time. It may also affect the mood and prolong insomnia can lead to health problem.

Why is Sleeping Important?

Having a quality sleep is important as we spend one third of the lifetime sleeping. Sleeping allow the body to be rest and recharge. Studies have proved that people who sleep more tend to live longer than people who sleep less. It is best to sleep for about 8 hours a day.


According to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory (TCM), body detoxification occurs during sleep time from 11pm to 3pm. Hence, it is recommended to sleep by 11pm to allow the body to detox. Too much toxin in the body will cause health issue.

Better Concentration and Memory

Sleeping allows the brain to rest and recharge. Energetic brain works better than sleepy brain. Rest is one of the best nutrition to the brain, it allows the brain think better.

Controlling Weight

Studies have shown that dieter who sleep more tend to loss more weight than those who have insomnia. When the body have not enough sleep, the brain will stimulate certain hormones that will increase appetite and causes excessive eating.

Cardiovascular Health

Lack of sleep can cause increase in blood pressure. Higher blood pressure affect the mood and make the person more prone to depression and anxiety. Sleep also affect the cholesterol level of the body. High cholesterol can affect the blod pressure and cause health problem.
